The Day We Had to Deliver Our First Baby Alpaca
Today was one of those days on the farm that I know I will never forget. 🩵
We had to assist with the birth of a baby alpaca for the very first time here at our farm. What started as a normal day quickly turned into a situation where we knew we had to act fast.
This sweet mama is Biscuit, and this was her very first time giving birth. She had been working hard, but something just wasn’t right. The baby wasn’t progressing the way it should, and after taking a closer look, we realized that one of the baby’s feet was in the wrong position.
That tiny mistake made a huge difference.
The baby was partially positioned to come out, but with the foot trapped in the wrong place, it had become stuck. We knew we couldn’t simply wait and hope everything would work itself out. Every minute mattered.
So we carefully stepped in to help Biscuit.
I had to reach in and locate the baby’s misplaced foot, gently guide it back into the correct position, and help create enough room for the baby to finally move through the birth canal.
It was stressful, scary, and honestly something I never imagined I would be doing when I started life on a farm. But Biscuit was such a good girl. She trusted us and allowed us to help her through one of the most difficult moments of her life.
And then, finally… the baby came out. 🥹🩵
That moment of seeing this tiny little alpaca alive and breathing was absolutely incredible. After all the worry and uncertainty, both mom and baby were doing well.
Biscuit was exhausted, but she was okay. And her little baby was right there beside her, beginning its first moments in this world.
I still can’t believe that this is my life.
One minute you’re doing normal farm chores, and the next you’re helping deliver a baby alpaca because its little foot decided to take the wrong route. 😂
It was definitely not the birth we expected, but we are incredibly grateful that we noticed something was wrong in time and were able to help.
Mom and baby are doing great! 🦙🤍
And trust me, this is only the beginning of their story. Follow along and check out our next reel for more updates on Biscuit and her beautiful new baby. I can’t wait to show you how they’re doing. 🩵
Sometimes farm life is messy, unpredictable, exhausting, and absolutely terrifying… but then you get moments like this that remind you exactly why you love it.
Welcome to the world, little one. You were already a fighter before you even took your first breath. 🤍🦙
