🐶 Yumi’s Heartwarming Race

At a college basketball game halftime show on March 8, 2025, several adorable corgis lined up for a fun dog race. Among them was Yumi, a 14‑year‑old Pembroke Welsh Corgi who uses a wheelchair for his back legs

While most of the other dogs sprinted quickly across the court, Yumi made his way slowly and steadily, encouraged by a treat held in front of him.

Instead of cheering for just the fastest pups, the crowd began cheering loudly for Yumi, applauding his effort and determination. Even the announcer gave him a special shout‑out as he crossed the finish line — long after the others.

🏆 A Win of a Different Kind

Although Yumi didn’t finish first, people quickly fell in love with him:

  • The race clip went viral online after being shared on social media. Canal do Pet
  • Fans commented that his joy, persistence, and happiness made him a winner in their hearts.
  • Many said his effort was truly inspiring — more important than speed or place.

One popular sentiment online was that even though Yumi didn’t win the race, he “won everyone’s hearts” with his sweet spirit and courage. Canal do Pet

💖 Why People Loved Yumi

Yumi’s story resonated with so many because it reminded them that:

“Winning isn’t always about coming in first — it’s about giving your best and making people smile.” GOOD

Even without finishing first, Yumi became the most memorable part of the event — showing that sometimes heart and joy matter more than speed
