What was supposed to be a routine swearing-in turned into a whirlwind of suspicion, all thanks to a single kiss in the White House.
During the November 10, 2025, ceremony appointing Sergio Gor as U.S. ambassador to India, the usually buttoned-up formalities of the Oval Office took a shocking personal turn during an exchange between President Donald Trump and Erika Kirk. And the internet didn’t hold back.

The Confusing Moment
As Donald sat confidently behind the famed Resolute Desk, he suddenly started looking around and then asked, “Where’s Erika?”
Erika, now the CEO of Turning Point USA and the widow of the late conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk, emerged from the left to greet the president.

What happened next had netizens confused: she leaned in, offering her cheek. Donald kissed her gently while she placed one hand on his shoulder and clasped his other hand. The two then held hands for several long seconds before parting.

Social Media Explodes Over Intimate Exchange
The reaction was instantaneous and ferocious.
One commenter on social media cried out, “Why is he kissing her?” while another spiraled into disbelief, questioning, “Why is she there? Why is she there? Why is she there right now? What’s her purpose there right now? What is going on?”
Another shocked viewer wrote, “Why is she at the Oval office? This is becoming a bad Netflix movie with a healthy side of cult. Also, that’s weird and creepy.”
And perhaps the most scathing comment of all said, “Bizarre. I truly don’t understand why she is there? Charlie would have wanted her home with their children. Like a proper Christian wife and mother.”

While some leaned into confusion or condemnation, others speculated it was all part of a carefully staged scene.
“He don’t [sic] ask where’s Melania like that lol, but anyway it’s just a publicity stunt,” one person declared on Facebook. “That’s the part they put on camera, and show to the public, the part that’s not even related.”
Others simply wondered, “Not that she can’t be there but why is she there?” and “What is she doing there? Is she now working for him?”
The Reason She Was There
Despite the swirl of drama, the reason for Erika’s presence was deeply personal. She had been invited by the president himself. Gor was a close friend of her late husband and the co-founder of Winning Team Publishing, which has released several of Charlie’s books.

When asked to speak, Erika Kirk delivered a short but emotional message to Gor, expressing how much her late husband cared for him and how Charlie would’ve called him immediately after the news of his new position came.
Gor was officially assigned as the ambassador to India this past October, and Erika’s presence was a bittersweet homage to shared history and enduring friendship.
She continued, “The way that I was able to witness the two of you work together for years and to champion and support the president was absolutely humbling to witness, and I am so proud of you and Charlie is going to be with you every single day in spirit.”
Erika added that Gor would be in her prayers as more opportunities open up for him in the future. Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that an intimate moment of hers has attracted online attention.
